Grading
Kiwis are gathered in boxes and bins. When full, they will make their way to the packing house for grading. These boxes full of kiwis will be stores or packed according to customer demand.
The Aweta bin dumper or rotating box dumper empties the boxes on the belt conveyor, starting the process to the quality sorting table. On the quality sorting table, a visual inspection is conducted to remove second quality products. These are picked out of the batch manually. The fruit undergoes brushing to remove hair and dust. Before continuing on to the Aweta grader.
The products continue to the Aweta Grader. The Aweta singulator is specially designed to separate every single product. This prevents them from doubling up and guarantees an accurate measurement. The Aweta Grader will sort the products on weight and shape. Special cameras inspect the products according to required standards.
Because kiwis are very delicate fruit, firmness is very important. The quality of the fruit can change from day to day. This means that a hard kiwi today, can already be soft tomorrow. Especially when kiwis are being pre-sized, in order to go into cold storage. A kiwi grower needs to trust the quality of his inventory in cold storage.
The Aweta firmness sensor (AFS) is able to determine the firmness of each kiwi, sort it into certain batches guaranteeing the supplier to have a uniform batch when he needs it. This way, he can take the batch out of cold storage, pack it into the required packaging material and ship it to his customer whenever needed.
Products are then transported to different outlets.
The number of lines and outlets depends on the customer's requirements for capacity and packing.
