Grading
The cucumber market has been the first and oldest market that Aweta has experienced in. After 41 years, the Aweta grading machines have evolved from stand-alone machines into complete installations that begin in the greenhouse and end in the transportation truck.
Harvested cucumbers usually arrive in the packing area from the greenhouse in boxes or containers. The consumer market these days, has very specific demands for sorting and packaging of produce. Therefore, Aweta has developed an integrated system to enable the user to guarantee the highest quality.
The boxes or containers with cucumbers are emptied onto feeding belts. The cucumbers lay across the travel direction. The gentle handling of the product decreases the risk of damages. A manual inspection will take place and the second (and third) quality cucumbers are manually removed. From the feeding belt the cucumbers travel onto the elevator belt which leads to the Aweta grader.
The Aweta grader will sort the cucumbers on weight and size. Special cameras measure the length of the cucumbers accurately. The combination of weight and size enables the user to perform uniform packing. After the cucumbers have been sorted they will be transported to the packing exits.
Since the cucumber is a very fragile product, careful handling and gentle transfers are of the utmost importance. Therefore, Aweta has developed a fall-break system that guides the cucumber gently from the sorting cup onto the rotating plateau. This plateau replaces the receiving tray enabling the user to create a large buffer of cucumbers. The cucumbers will then be manually packed into boxes in a faster and more convenient way, restricting the risk of damages to a minimum.
The number of lines and outlets depends on the customer's requirements for capacity and packing.
