Introduction Tomatoes

Tomatoes are vegetables that come in different shapes, sizes and colors. Therefore there is not only one suitable grading machine, but a variety of graders that will fit particular needs.

Tomatoes usually grow in greenhouses. When harvested, they will be transported in trolleys, large bins or in water channels to the packing house.

If transported by water, strong consideration is given to the efficiency and product friendliness. The tomatoes arrive in the packing house and are moved onto the elevator to the sorting table. During this process the tomatoes will be rinsed with fresh water.

If the tomatoes are transported by trolleys or large bins, they will be dumped onto feeding hoppers which will guide them to the elevator in order to end up on the sorting table.

At the sorting table second quality is sorted out of the batch by hand. This is the last stage before the tomatoes go to the grader.

Depending on the size of the product, Aweta has 3 categories to distinguish tomatoes:

small tomatoes - tomato with diameter between 15 and 40 mm

medium tomatoes - tomato with diameter between 40 and 110 mm

big tomatoes - tomato with diameter bigger than 110 mm
